Old New Table
wood project 23”+(12”+12”) x 36” x 30” high
Description:
Here’s a nice old table—I know it’s a nice old table because it’s been in the family for about three generations, maybe more, passed down through the years. It even has that old ink stain, the kind of mark that tells you “this thing is ancient.” Who the heck uses ink anymore?
What I’ve done to it:
Replaced the original hinges with piano hinges for extra strength.
Sanded down the weathered top.
Pyrographed a design into the surface, then added a splash of color with pigment.
Sealed everything with—if I’m remembering correctly—four layers of polyurethane. Definitely four layers.
I’m very happy with how it turned out. It’s sparked ideas for more art projects, and I’d give it a solid 9.9 / 10.
